LAPHROAIG WELCOMES NEW DISTILLERY MANAGER

New Laphroaig Distillery Manager joins as Suntory Global Spirits promotes two current employees to Islay Assistant Distillery Manager, two new roles dedicated to supporting both its historic distilleries on Islay, Laphroaig and Bowmore.

Iconic Islay distillery Laphroaig has announced the appointment of George Campbell as its new Distillery Manager. George’s appointment comes as owner Suntory Global Spirits announces promotions for current employees Jonathan Fletcher and Emma Boyle to new Islay Assistant Distillery Manager roles, dedicated to supporting both Suntory Global Spirits’ distilleries on Islay, Laphroaig and Bowmore.

Bringing over 12 years’ experience in the whisky industry, George Campbell will return home to Islay to join Laphroaig on 1st October. George started his career as a Laphroaig Distillery Tour Guide, before moving on to roles at Diageo, William Grant & Sons, and most recently Mighty Craft in Australia. His return to Laphroaig and relocation to Islay reflects the draw of this role and appeal of the iconic bold smoky single malt.

Commenting on his appointment, George Campbell said: “I’m honoured to be joining the team at this exciting time. Laphroaig Distillery is a special place for me and it’s the team there that inspired me to start a career in the whisky industry when I was 21. A return to join the team again as Distillery Manager feels like coming home in every way.”

In line with the long-term ambitions for both Laphroaig and Bowmore distilleries, Suntory Global Spirits will establish a new operational structure on Islay with a collaborative distillery management team. With two new Islay Assistant Distillery Managers trained to operate in both distilleries, the team will be equipped to work flexibly across both sites, providing further opportunities for professional and personal development. It will also allow for increased best-practice sharing as each site enhances its sustainability credentials and maintains their shared dedication to crafting whisky of the highest quality on the isle of Islay. Suntory Global Spirits is pleased to appoint current employees Jonathan Fletcher and Emma Boyle for the new roles to support George Campbell, Laphroaig Distillery Manager, and David Turner, Bowmore Distillery Manager. Like George, Jonathan and Emma started their careers at Bowmore as Process Shift Operator and Laphroaig as Seasonal Tour Guide, respectively.
