Over half (52%) of Brits will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day this year at a pub or bar, according to a new survey* from music licensing company PPL PRS.
Food and drinks are at the top of Brits’ priority list when it comes to enjoying the biggest day in the Irish calendar with nine in 10 (88%) of respondents stating this was most important to them.
Two thirds (66%) of respondents also said that music, live or otherwise, is important when it comes to celebrating – a quarter (28%) of which are hoping to hear traditional Irish music during the celebrations.
Music therapist for PPL PRS, Marianne Rizkallah, explains:
“The atmosphere in a pub or bar can really make or break a celebratory night. It plays a key role in balancing the moods across the room. If an atmosphere becomes too intense, it risks riling up a crowd and / or causing people to leave.
“There are many benefits to playing music. When choosing tunes that heightens excitement, look at those with Beats Per Minute (BPM) that are slightly faster than the average heart rate. Plus, rises and falls that build anticipation (like when you’re waiting for the drop in an EDM track). Play at a moderate to loud volume for optimal effect.”
